Hear from Pre-College Online student, Max T.! Max joins us this summer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as part of the Visualizing Data with Graphic Design concentration, excited to hone his art and design skills and learn to work with data.

For Max, setting up a home studio was easy, requiring just a few tweaks to his typical workspace. “All that I ended up doing was turning my homeschool setup into my art setup by removing all of the existing items off of my desk and placing down my cutting mat. That gave me a dedicated place to do art and I have not changed it since!”

Max’s coursework this summer has not only helped him build his art and design foundation, but also gain experience in planning and public speaking through critique. He’s particularly enjoyed stepping outside of his comfort zone with his concentration course. “Every project has been fun while also challenging my existing skills and thoughts about design. The biggest challenge was for me, not the actual artwork, but figuring out what to make the artwork on as well as how to arrange the items inside. The biggest surprise I have found is just how capable I am of making amazing artwork on my own.”

What’s ahead? Max plans to use the skills he’s gained this summer to support future studies in architecture, while continuing to challenge and surprise himself with what’s possible when data and design intersect.
