COVID-19 Information for RISD Pre-College Students + Families

COVID-19 Update: May 15, 2020

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 RISD Pre-College program.

RISD CE Online has developed a new program dedicated to high school students who are serious about a creative path: RISD Advanced Program for High School Students.

We know you may have been interested in RISD Pre-College, and while this online program can’t replace that on-campus experience, it will offer high school students the opportunity to experience a collegiate-level, intensive curriculum culminating into potential work for college application portfolios. Registration opens Monday, May 18. Learn More>>

COVID-19 Update: April 24, 2020

Given the uncertain projections for when COVID-19 will slow, we have decided the most responsible course of action for summer is to not hold any programming on campus or in person.

We have made the difficult decision to officially cancel the 2020 RISD Pre-College program. We are currently in the process of developing online courses, that while they can’t replace our Pre-College experience, they will offer high school students the opportunity to experience a collegiate-level, immersive, expressive and challenging curriculum culminating into potential work for college application portfolios.

COVID-19 Update: April 1, 2020

We hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe during these unprecedented times. This remains a rapidly evolving situation, and we appreciate your patience, kindness, and perseverance as we navigate this new normal.

The health, safety, and well-being of our students, instructors, and staff remains our top priority, and every decision we’ve made over the past few weeks reflects that. Only after careful consideration and comprehensive discussions with many who are deeply invested in the health and education of our students, Rhode Island School of Design has made an important decision about on-campus summer programming:

Given the uncertain projections for when COVID-19 will slow, we have decided the most responsible course of action for summer is to not hold any programming on campus or in person. We have made the difficult decision to officially cancel the 2020 RISD Pre-College program.

As a result, program payments, including the deposit, will be 100% refunded. The $60 application fee and other program-related costs not billed by RISD such as travel, supplies, etc. are non-refundable. Refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment. All refunds will be processed within 4 weeks.

Our staff and instructors share in your disappointment that we won’t be able to join together in a creative connection on campus this summer. We fully understand this is a pivotal time in your life, as an artist and as a student preparing for college –in fact, it’s the reason we are so passionate about providing our Pre-College program.

Please know that in the coming weeks, we’ll be in the process of developing online courses, that while they can’t replace our Pre-College experience, they will offer high school students the opportunity to experience a collegiate-level, immersive, expressive and challenging curriculum culminating into potential work for college application portfolios. Please watch for updates on these classes on our Continuing Education website: ce.risd.edu.

Whether you choose to join us online this summer, come to Pre-College next year or follow other paths, we sincerely hope that you will not let this change in your plans deter you from pursuing creative inspiration in all your endeavors.
